FREE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING SUPPORTS TO HELP FRONTLINE WORKERS THANKS TO IRISH CHARITY HEROES AID

To mark World Wellbeing Week (June 21 – 30) registered charity,  Heroes Aid, set up last year after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, is now offering tailor-made psychological support via their website heroesaid.ie.

Frontline healthcare staff, working anywhere throughout the country, can avail of 1-to-1 counselling, a 24-hr helpline and an online toolkit to combat everyday stress. Registering is easy and best of all everything is independent, confidential and completely free.

Heroes Aid is the only charity in Ireland run by healthcare workers, for healthcare workers. Its philosophy is simple: Let’s care for those who care for others.

Founder of Heroes Aid, Mary Leahy, says: 'When we started our charity last year our initial priority was to supply life-saving PPE to healthcare staff working on the frontline of Covid-19. A year later and we’re still supporting those risking their lives every day to help others. The pandemic is changing however, so we’re changing with it. Healthcare staff tell us they’re quickly reaching mental and physical burn out. They’re in desperate need of support to cope with the sustained pressure they’ve been experiencing. We're here to support everyone who needs us, from doctors and nurses, to hospital porters, physiotherapists and canteen staff. Even healthcare heroes need help sometimes'

We understand that a lot of workplaces nowadays offer employees a ‘wellness programme’, but we like to think that we’ve made something a little bit special. Heroes Aid prides itself on being the only charity that’s designed by healthcare workers, for healthcare workers. We know, for instance, that some people will be reassured by our 24/7 dedicated helpline, while others will want to take part in 1-to-1 counselling sessions with trained professionals. No two people are the same, so our services are as individual as they are. Participants can choose from self-help courses covering sleep, stress and self-esteem to everything in between.
